Know your hosting stack

Apache, NGINX or LiteSpeed Enterprise?

All three can serve production websites. Configuration, application needs, caching and account resources matter more than a web-server name alone.

Apache

Apache HTTP Server

Flexible modules & per-directory rules

Architecture
Configurable process models. The event MPM handles keep-alive connections asynchronously; Apache is not limited to one process per connection.
Configuration
.htaccess supports per-directory rules when AllowOverride permits them. Module and rewrite compatibility depends on configuration.
Caching
mod_cache provides HTTP caching. WordPress can also use application-level caching; it requires appropriate setup and invalidation.
License
Open source. No commercial web-server license fee; hosting and administration still have costs.
Good fit
Sites that need Apache modules, familiar rewrite rules and control over server configuration.
NGINX

Reverse proxy & application routing

Architecture
A master process and workers with an event-driven model. Commonly serves static files and proxies requests to application servers.
Configuration
Routes and rewrite rules are defined in NGINX configuration, rather than Apache .htaccess files. Migration needs translated rules.
Caching
FastCGI and proxy caching are available. WordPress cache exclusions and purge behaviour need deliberate configuration.
License
NGINX Open Source has no commercial license fee. NGINX Plus is a separate commercial product.
Good fit
Custom application stacks, reverse proxies and deployments where you manage central server configuration.
LiteSpeed

LiteSpeed Enterprise

Architecture
An event-driven commercial web server with Apache-compatible configuration support and hosting control-panel integrations.
Configuration
Supports common Apache configuration and .htaccess rules. Check application and module compatibility when migrating.
Caching
LSCache integrates server caching with supported applications. WordPress uses the LiteSpeed Cache plugin; cache behaviour depends on setup.
License
Commercial Enterprise license included in NepalCloud Shared, DirectAdmin, WordPress and Reseller hosting.
Good fit
Managed PHP and WordPress sites that want familiar hosting-panel workflows and integrated application caching.

What this means for your website

LiteSpeed Enterprise is included across our Shared, DirectAdmin, WordPress and Reseller plans. Enterprise and OpenLiteSpeed are different products. An unmanaged VPS uses the software you install and any licenses you obtain.

For stores, test cart, checkout and signed-in sessions with cache exclusions. Avoid running competing page-cache plugins. Judge speed with the same site, workload and cache state; this comparison includes no NepalCloud performance benchmark or guaranteed speed multiplier.
